Online Safety

Keeping Children Safe Online: In school, on School Devices and at Home

Online safety is an important part of children’s education at Aldersbrook. It is taught through the curriculum and reinforced whenever children use technology in school.

Online safety at school and on school devices

Children may access the internet through school computers, laptops or tablets. To support their safety:

  • Internet access is filtered through secure systems
  • Activity is monitored to help us to identify any concerns and act upon them
  • Safeguarding systems are in place to alert staff to potential risks
  • Children are taught how to use technology safely and responsibly

Online safety at home

We recognise that parents and carers are the most important influence in a child’s life. Many children have access to personal devices such as phones, tablets, gaming consoles and smartwatches, often from a young age.

While technology can support learning and development, it also means children may come across content or situations that are not appropriate.

We strongly encourage parents and carers to:

  • Take an active interest in what their child is doing online
  • Set clear rules and boundaries for device use
  • Use parental controls and privacy settings where appropriate
  • Talk regularly with their child about their online experiences

Understanding online risks

Keeping Children Safe in Education highlights 4 main areas of online risk:

Content – what children may see online
Conduct – how children behave online
Contact – who children communicate with
Commerce – online spending, advertising and scams

Being aware of these areas can help you support your child more effectively.
